I shoot family sessions with a documentary, or photojournalistic approach.
Family photojournalists don't tell you what to do or where to stand. They don't even move objects or flip light switches. We work with the available light and we're trained to know how to use it to our advantage, even when it's dim! We move ourselves around instead of staging the elements in the room. We use our intuition and experience to make sure we're in the right place at the right time when something awesome happens.
We appreciate that life isn't always perfect. We are truth-seekers and we take the chaos with the sweetness. We are drawn by moments and storytelling, not trends. We want to document real life in an honest and timeless way, so that when you look back on the photos years from now, instead of cringing, your heart bursts remembering your family's stories.
What does this mean for you? Well, all the work is on me, and you don't have to do a thing. Don't stress out about outfits, don't worry about cleaning up (unless it makes you feel good!) and don't worry about your kids' behavior. All I need from you is a little bit of openness and vulnerability. Be you. Unapologetically. And the magic will happen.
